In my practice, whenever I am treating patients with chronic disease, inflammation is always at the forefront of the discussion. Inflammation plays a prominent role in the physiological dysfunction that adds fuel to the fire in many disease processes. From cancer, asthma, heart disease, arthritis, cognitive dysfunction and of course the extensive number of autoimmune diseases, inflammation has a role in all of it!

Timely and balanced inflammation can be a good thing in normal situations as a first line response in dealing with pathogens, or reducing tissue damage after trauma.  When the immune system is functioning correctly, inflammation stimulates the body’s inherent repair process. However, due to many external stimuli in our present lifestyles like stress, toxicity, obesity and poor dietary habits, more and more of our natural protection pathways break down or become overstimulated for too long and chronic illness can develop.
